Social Hike: Vineyards of Oberlaa

Come explore the vineyards and corn fields of Oberlaa, one of Vienna's most underrated areas. After conveniently meeting up at Vienna Main Station (Wien Hauptbahnhof), we'll first cross through the trendy Sonnwendviertel towards Laaer Berg and then walk up to the highest point of Löwygrube. From here you can see, weather permitting, as far as to the Lower Carpathians of Slovakia. After getting lost in the vineyards of nearby Goldberg, we then venture further downhill until reaching the tree-lined Liesing creek between Oberlaa and Unterlaa. Following the waves, we'll leave the official boundaries of Vienna and finally arrive at Kledering village. From there, a quick train ride will take us back to Vienna Main Station.

Underway we'll have fun with ice breakers, discussion prompts and local trivia.

• What's a Social Hike?
  • A hosted hiking trip into nature with plenty of socializing and fun. While exploring some of the best trails in the region, we enjoy learning about Austria and each other's countries.
• How fit do I need to be?
  • All our hikes are recreational in nature, so average fitness is fine. They are not advisable for people with heart or lung issues though.
• So who's coming?
  • Usually we're a joyful mix of Vienna expats and Austrians with international background. Sometimes there's also travellers or digital nomads. Average age ranges between 25 and 55.
• May I bring my dog, cat or guinea-pig?
  • Sorry, unfortunately animals are not permitted at our events.

    Please arrive 5 minutes ahead at the meeting point described in the confirmation e-mail. Events are based on fixed timetables and unfortunately cannot consider latecomers.

• What if there's no more spots left?
  • For ideal group dynamics, the number of participants is limited. Please book as early as possible, because full = full. If you are offered second-hand tickets elsewhere on the web, make sure you know the seller in person to avoid being scammed.

Value and booking
Price includes train tickets, beverage and friendly host. Discounts available for early birds, train pass holders (ÖBB-Klimaticket/Interrail), repeat participants, groups and Ukrainian nationals. In case of severely bad weather, this event will be cancelled and refunded.
